for the wider family raising children
The Grandparents Plus Support Network brings together grandparents who are raising their grandchildren and other kinship carers to give them a voice, to share experiences, provide them with useful training and give them the opportunity to campaign for the recognition they deserve.
All members of our FREE Support Network receive a quarterly newsletter, Kinship First, which includes news, advice and personal stories. Materials are also updated regularly on our website.
Locally, we run events which feature useful workshops such as ‘Managing Anger in Kinship Children’ and ‘Understanding Trauma and Attachment’. We maintain a list of local support groups – both run by Grandparents Plus and independent – on our website and will be developing our work with support groups over the coming months.
National events include our very popular annual fun day which was attended by over 550 kinship carers and children in 2015. We also bring carers to Westminster to meet MPs at an annual Kinship Carers Summit.
Our national buddying service aims to put kinship carers in touch with others locally, so that they don’t feel so isolated. We are also developing work to support kinship carers with parenting challenges and have recently completed a pilot training course funded by the Tudor Trust.
