During the placement, she will be working on putting together a discussion or policy paper proposing the extension of statutory adoption leave and pay to kinship carers, in particular grandparents, who take on the caring role for children in difficult family circumstances. Currently, Ruksar is a School of Law PhD student at the University of Leicester. Her research, 'Putting the Welfare of the Child at the Heart of the Reconciliation of Work and Family Life Principle: A Role for Grandparents?', explores two important principles: whether the legislation designed to facilitate work/life balance really takes into account the best interest of the children and whether grandparents have a role to play in order to achieve this. Ruksar’s PhD and this placement are both being funded by Midlands3Cities DTP.
