Kinship Care Advisory Group

Grandparents Plus is a national charity in England and Wales working for grandparents and other relatives who play a vital role in the family, especially when they face the challenges of raising children as kinship carers.

Grandparents Plus is proud to work with kinship carers to inform our work. In order to continue to do this we are forming a kinship care advisory group, made up of kinship carers who will meet quarterly with members of staff and the Trustee Board to support the development of the charity.

The role

You will be an active member of the Grandparents Plus Kinship Care Advisory Group. You will be responsible for reviewing our work and plans, and asked to give feedback and comments on aspects of our work including new materials, services, research, policy and campaigns activity. Your experience raising a friend or relative’s child will allow you to inform our work to suit the needs of other kinship carers.

Main duties

  1. Contribute to the organisation’s aims and objectives using your experience as a kinship carer to inform our work.
  2. Attend quarterly advisory group meetings that will be held at locations in England and Wales, based on the needs of the group.
  3. Work with the members of the group, made up of 8 kinship carers, to discuss the work of the organisation and agree main feedback points and recommendations.
  4. Review any items sent to you prior to Advisory Group meetings.

About you

Each member of the advisory group must have:

  • A commitment to Grandparents Plus and to working collaboratively to transform kinship care support.
  • Experience as a kinship carer and a willingness to contribute you’re your own experience to the development of our services.
  • The ability to commit to being part of the Advisory Group for one year, or four meetings.
  • The ability to attend quarterly group meetings to discuss the activity of Grandparents Plus so that feedback can be collected and given to the Senior Leadership Team and Board of Trustees and help shape our work.
  • A willingness to contribute your own experience to the development of our services.
Please apply by 22nd June 2018

Please send a letter, including your address and contact details, experience as a kinship carer, and reasons for applying to become a member of the Grandparents Plus Kinship Care Advisory Group, to Olivia at [email protected] or Grandparents Plus, 1 Addington Square, London, SE5 0HF.

We hope to recruit kinship carers from across England and Wales who bring diverse experiences and we encourage kinship carers who are grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers, sisters or other relatives to apply whether you have a legal order or are caring for a relative’s child informally.

The group is limited to 8 places, but if you’re not selected for this role, we’d still like to talk through ways for you to get involved. Our volunteer development manager will be happy to discuss this with you.

Thank you for your interest and we will let you know the outcome of your application by 6th July 2018.

Please note this is a voluntary unpaid position, and the group is not a decision-making body. Reasonable expenses will be paid in line with the Grandparents Plus Expenses Policy.
