Kinship Care Celebration Day FAQs Q: What is the kinship care celebration day? A: The celebration day is an event we hold annually so we can celebrate kinship carers and the children they have stepped in to raise. It is an opportunity to bring kinship carers and their children together so they can meet each other, make new friends, share experiences, and have a fun day out with the kids. Q: Who can come to the celebration day? A: The celebration day is for Grandparents Plus Kinship Care Network members. It is an event specifically for kinship carers and kinship care children. We have a limited number of tickets, so we ask that you don’t include the wider family. If you have other children living at home, they are welcome to come to the celebration day. The celebration day is a chance for the kinship family to have a day out together, and to meet other kinship carers and children. Q: When is the kinship care celebration day? A: This year, our annual celebration day will be taking place on Saturday 6th October, 10am-5pm. Q: Where is the celebration day being held? A: On the day, we’ll be holding 4 events at locations across the country. There will be celebrations at: Eureka! Halifax Gulliver’s World, Warrington The Science Museum, London The Alnwick Garden You can book places at the location that is best for you and have a fun day out to celebrate kinship care. Q: Why have you chosen these locations this year? A: We have consulted with kinship care support groups to come up with suitable locations and venues. Some feedback from last year was the Gulliver’s wasn’t right for everyone, so we have tried to offer a wider range of locations so that every kinship family enjoys their day out. Q: How much do tickets for the celebration day cost? A: Tickets to the celebration day are free. Places for kinship cares and their children have kindly been funded by the Family Holiday Association. When you book your tickets through Eventbrite, you will be asked to pay a deposit of £5 per adult. The deposit is to make sure that all booked places are used; we have had high numbers of drop-outs in the past. We hate the thought of someone missing out on a ticket and a place at the celebration day going to waste. After the celebration day, if you have attended, the money will be refunded to you. If you book a space and are no longer able to come, please let us know as soon as possible, but no later than Monday 1st October, so we can refund your deposit. Tickets for the celebration day will be available to book on Tuesday 28th August. As a member of our kinship care network, you will be sent an email with links to the booking page for each celebration day event. You can click through and book your places. You will need to know how many adults and children you are booking for, and have a debit/credit card handy to pay your deposit. Q: How many tickets can I book? A: You can book a maximum of 6 tickets per family. Each booking must have 1 adult ticket, so you can book tickets for 1 adult + 5 children, or 2 adults + 4 children. This limit is to ensure that everybody who would like to attend is able to book tickets for their family. You will be asked to pay a deposit of £5 per adult ticket. The deposit will be refunded to you after you have attended the celebration day. If you have more than 4/5 kinship or dependent children at home, please book your tickets as normal, and call us on 020 8709 8182 to add additional tickets to your booking. Q: Why do I have to pay a deposit for a free event? A: We’ve decided to ask kinship carers to pay a £5 deposit for each adult ticket they book to make sure that tickets are allocated to individuals before they are booked. In previous years, we have had high numbers of people who have booked tickets for the celebration day and not informed us when they weren’t able to come. This means that spaces, and money, has gone to waste, and some kinship families have missed out on the opportunity to come along. Q: When will I get my deposit back? A: If you come to the celebration day, and make sure you register with a member of the Grandparents Plus team, we will refund your deposit on Monday 8th October. If you have booked places but are no longer able to attend, please let us know as soon as possible so we can release your tickets to another kinship family. Q: Can I come with my kinship carers support group? A: Yes, you’re welcome to come as part of a larger group, but you will be need to book tickets separately for each family. This is to ensure that each ticket booked is allocated to someone at the time of booking. Q: What is included in the ticket? A: The ticket will give you access to the attraction you have chosen. The ticket does not include transport or any food or drink. Q: Will there be a chance to meet the Grandparents Plus team? A: Yes, there will be members of staff at each venue. They will be dealing with things like registration, getting everyone together for lunch, and any other queries you have on the day. We’d love to meet you, so please come and say ‘hello’.
