News & research Latest news Intergenerational walking routes launched for Grandparents Day We've teamed up with the Ramblers to launch the country's first series of intergenerational walks for Grandparents Day on October 1. Brought together thanks to the support of players of People’s Postcode Lottery, the 15 walks are all under three miles long, easily accessible for children and older people and spread across the country. Lucy Peake, Chief Executive of Grandparents Plus said: We’re really excited to launch these intergenerational walking routes so that whether you’ve got young grandchildren or an older grandparent, everyone has the chance to get out and about this Grandparents Day. Research shows that grandparents and grandchildren get so much out of spending time together, especially when doing an activity that they both enjoy. We’re really grateful to the Ramblers for bringing their expertise to the table, and to players of People’s Postcode Lottery for making it possible. Vanessa Griffiths, Chief Executive of the Ramblers said: We are absolutely delighted that players of People’s Postcode Lottery have enabled us to work in partnership with Grandparents Plus. Not only is walking great exercise for grandparents and children alike, helping them to get fit and stay healthy, it’s a wonderful way to spend some quality time together as a family. We’ve picked some of our best family-friendly Ramblers Routes to offer to families this Grandparents Day, and hope people will step out for a family walking adventure. By taking their grandchildren out for a walk, grandparents will be helping children to discover the great outdoors and inspiring the next generation of walkers. Discover the routes here.
