News Latest news July news Children's Minister meets Kinship Carers Kinship care was on the agenda this week, as carers Jane and Janice, along with our Chief Executive Lucy, met Children's Minister Nadhim Zahawi in Westminster to tell him why kinship carers need more support. The meeting is the latest in a series of events aimed at increasing awareness of kinship care among MPs and policymakers, including a parliamentary roundtable on kinship care and several successful visits of local MPs to support groups. We'd like to thank all of the carers who've spoken out about their experiences at meetings or in the media, contributed to focus groups or welcomed an MP to their support group - you're making a huge difference! As a result, Grandparents Plus has been invited to sit on the Adoption and Special Guardianship Leadership Board, and we're committed to keep fighting until all kinship carers get the support they need. Think you could invite your MP to your support group? Get in touch! Get in touch on Facebook On the last Tuesday of every month our advice team will be taking over our Facebook page between 11am and 12pm. This will be your opportunity to get quick answers to any of your kinship care questions or concerns. There will be a post on our page where you can post questions publicly - you never know, other carers might need the same advice - or, if you’d prefer to speak more privately, you can send us a message and someone from the team will reply. Join us on Facebook to get those kinship care questions answered. Raising awareness of kinship care Our Chief Executive Lucy Peake was featured on BBC Look East, along with one of our amazing kinship care champions Annabel and her granddaughter. A great interview highlighting the need for more support across the board for kinship carers.
