We’ve teamed up with Family Lives to raise awareness of the 200,000 children in kinship care in the UK.
We asked Rochelle, a grandmother raising her two granddaughters, to talk about her experiences as a kinship carer.
“I didn’t envisage raising a family again. I didn’t have to do it, but the choice was that they would have been put in care – one would have been adopted and the other would have gone through the foster care system. Not only are they ripped from their parents, they’re then ripped apart. These children need a stable upbringing, to be safe, to be wanted, to be loved.”
We took Rochelle to Trafalgar Square to make sure her story was heard.
