We’re delighted that players of People’s Postcode Lottery are supporting Grandparents Plus through Postcode Support Trust with an award of £300,000 to support our work with kinship carers during 2020.
We’re a small national charity addressing a growing issue and long-term support from players of People’s Postcode Lottery over the past four years has been critical to our growth as a charity. We’re delighted to be supporting more kinship families than ever before.
Last year, funding meant we were able to advise almost 2,500 kinship carers – our highest number ever. We’re proud to have made life a little easier by helping them get the support they need for the children they’ve stepped in to raise such as welfare benefits they’re entitled to as well as grants to cover activities and essential items for children and family holidays.
Funding also helped us connect more carers than ever before – with each other and with us – through our network of peer support groups and 6,500 strong kinship care community. Thirty-nine kinship care champions were trained and supported to reach more families by raising awareness about kinship care in their communities and nationally through our high profile media work.
Lucy Peake, Chief Executive at Grandparents Plus, said: “Huge and heartfelt thanks once again to players of People’s Postcode Lottery for their ongoing support. The funding is truly transformative for us as a charity and will allow us to continue to increase our support and work with kinship families across the country to develop solutions to the unique challenges they face. We have a lot to do, but we won’t stop until kinship families get the support and recognition they need and deserve.”
