Grandparents Plus’ vision is that all kinship carers are able to access support wherever they live.  With significant support from innovation foundation Nesta and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, this role offers an exciting opportunity to work towards this vision by expanding our work with volunteers, embedding an emphasis on peer support and social action throughout our programmes and services for kinship carers. 

We’re looking for someone committed to the work of Grandparents Plus who is passionate about making a difference to the lives of vulnerable families through volunteering.  With your proven experience of engaging and managing volunteers, you’ll help us drive a new pan-organisational volunteering strategy and enable us to grow volunteering to make our organisation more sustainable.  You’ll bring excellent relationship building, communication and organisational skills, as well as be able to work on your own initiative and collaboratively with volunteers.

Sessional Advice Workers

London

Hours: Ad hoc/variable

Salary: £14.14/hour + holiday

The Role

Are you an experienced advice worker with knowledge of the benefits system? Do you want to be a lifeline for grandparents and other family members who step in to raise a child in difficult family circumstances? We’re looking for experienced sessional advice workers to provide advice and information on welfare benefits, financial support, children’s services and a range of other issues of relevance to family and friends, carers and guardians, who are bringing up a child because their parents cannot.

You will provide cover for staff holidays and sickness, and also extra cover for the service during periods of peak demand. A sensitive manner and the ability to work flexibly as a member of a small team are essential.
